11 Krishna Conscious Capsules

  • When Lord Krishna appeared in this material world to perform his pastimes, then he killed many demons when he was an infant only.
  • As a child he lifted the huge Govardhan Mountain to protect his devotees.
  • Krishna did not practice any kind of meditation or followed any process to become God.
  • In today’s world there are many so called yogis or sanyasis who fool the people by saying that one can also become God by practicing meditation or by chanting some secret mantras.
  • In Sri Isopanisad Lord is described by the word ‘paribhuh’ i.e. greatest of all.
  • A living entity can never become equal to the Lord.
  • Constitutional position of the living entities is that he is always subservient to the Lord.
  • However since the living entities want to enjoy separately from the Lord so he has to descend on this material world.
  • In this material world a living entity has to accept a material body
  • The lord awards a material body to the living entities as per their desires.
  • Thus the living entities get entrapped into the vicious cycle of birth & death until they realize the folly of the material world & finally decide to return 'Back to Godhead'.

11 Krishna Conscious Capsules

  • Lord Krishna has a transcendental form.
  • When he descends in this material world he does not accept a material body.
  • Krishna’s mind, body & soul are one and the same.
  • In Sri Isopanisad Krishna is described by the word akayam meaning unembodied i.e. Krishna does not have to accept a material body as a living entity.
  • A living entity has to accept a material body in this material world.
  • A living entity has to accept a body as per the laws of nature.
  • In Brahma – samhita Lord is described as sac-cid-ananda – vigraha i.e. he is eternal, blissful & full of knowledge.
  • Krishna is not bound by the laws of the material world because he is the architect of these laws.
  • Srila Prabhupada in his commentary explains that Krishna is also described as formless.
  • Srila Prabhupada further explains that this does not mean that he does not have a form but it implies that he has a form which we cannot conceive with our material senses.
  • Lord Krishna can perform any activity with any parts of his body i.e. he can eat with his eyes, see with his hands etc.

11 Krishna Conscious Capsules

  •  Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is situated in his internal potency which is called as svarupa – sakti or atma – sakti.
  • Lord Krishna expands himself in multiple forms. His expansions are of 2 types: Personal expansion & separated expansion.
  • Through these expansions he dwells simultaneously in the entire spiritual world & the entire material world.
  • The living entities (human beings, animals, plants, trees etc.) are his separated expansions.
  • These living entities are of 2 types: eternally liberated & eternally conditioned.
  • Those who are eternally liberated are the personal associates of the Lord & they are always Krishna Conscious.
  • These eternally liberated souls assist the Lord in his pastimes which take place in different universes.
  • Eternally conditioned living entities have a desire to enjoy separately from the Lord.
  • Thus these conditioned living entities are provided gross & subtle bodies & they fall down to the material world.
  • These conditioned souls or living entities thus transmigrates though the cycle of repeated birth & death in different species in different universes.
  • These conditioned souls continuously suffer in the material world. However the moment the conditioned souls realizes the fallacy of the material world & takes up to Krishna Consciousness he becomes eligible to go back home, Back to Godhead.

11 Krishna Conscious Capsules

  • Mind is like a reservoir where all the ideas for sense gratification are stored.
  • Polluted mind adversely influences the intelligence & thus intelligence fails to distinguish between righteous & non – righteous activities.
  • Such polluted intelligence negatively influences the spirit soul.
  • Under the influence of polluted mind & intelligence the soul starts identifying himself with the matter.
  • Thus the soul starts enjoying the material senses & mistakes it for true happiness.
  • As the soul starts considering the temporary gross material body as permanent so he starts focusing on satisfying the bodily needs.
  • Since, the soul starts identifying himself with the matter, so he starts considering the material body, the by products of the material body (i.e. his children, his family members) & this material world to be permanent.
  • Soul completely forgets his real identity that he is the part & parcel of the Lord.
  • Thus the soul never sincerely endeavors for self realization.
  • So, Lord Krishna advises in Bhagavad – Gita to regulate the senses from very beginning.
  • Senses should be controlled as per Vedic injunctions, this will ensure one understands the real purpose of life and endeavors for self realization.

11 Krishna Conscious Capsules

  • The nature of the soul is that it is always active.
  •  The body is like a vehicle without a driver. As a driver is required to move the vehicle, similarly it is the soul which provides life to the dead body.
  • The soul gets a human body, an animal body or a plant body based on his previous karma (past deeds).
  • The moment the soul leaves the body the body becomes inactive & useless.
  • Since the soul is always active, so every living entities be it human beings or animals are forced to act helplessly according to their modes of nature.
  • When a soul gets a human body then there is a chance to realize the real purpose of the life.
  • The human body provides rarest of the rare opportunity to purify one’s existence.
  • In order to be purified it is important that the soul takes up to Krishna Consciousness.
  • This will provide an opportunity to go back home, Back to Godhead.
  • If one misses this golden opportunity then one again gets entangled in the never ending cycle of birth & death.
  • Once the soul reaches the eternal abode i.e. the spiritual world he never comes back to this material world.

11 Krishna Conscious Capsules

  • Arjuna was disturbed to see the universal form of the Lord Krishna.
  • So, he desired to see the four handed form of the Lord.
  • Upon the request of Arjuna, Lord showed his 4 handed form of Vishnu & later 2 handed humanlike form.
  • Pure devotees of the Lord are actually interested in seeing 2 – handed form of the Lord which is very beautiful.
  • In the Brahma – samhita (5.38) it is said 'premanjana – cchurita – bhakti – vilocanena (5.38)' i.e. a person whose eyes are smeared with the ointment of love can see the beautiful form of Sri Krishna.
  • Arjuna was very much pleased to see the humanlike form of the Lord.
  • Thus the Lord of the Universe showed his universal form, 4 – handed form & 2 handed form to Arjuna.
  • Krishna's 2 – handed form is very pleasing & even demigods like Lord Siva & Lord Brahma desire to see it.
  • Krishna is not visible to those people who deride him.
  • Krishna's body is not made of matter.
  • Krishna's body is completely spiritual & is full of knowledge, bliss & eternity.

11 Krishna Conscious Capsules

  • Lord Krishna showed his universal form to his dear devotee friend Arjuna.
  • No one before Arjuna had ever seen this universal form.
  • It was because of Arjuna that other devotes of the Lord in the disciple succession were fortunate to see the Lord's universal form.
  • Lord Krishna manifested his universal form by his internal potency.
  • Lord's internal potency is inconceivable by human brain.
  • Lord Krishna says to Arjuna that his universal form cannot be seen simply by studying Vedas or by performing pious activities or by sacrifices or by performing penances.
  • To see the Lord's universal form one has to be a pure & unalloyed devotee of the Lord.
  • The supreme Personality of the Lord showed his universal form to Arjuna to clear his doubt.
  • At the battlefield of Kurushetra Arjuna did not want to fight because the Kauravas were his relatives.
  • But Lord showed to Arjuna that those people with whom he is going to fight are already killed because of their impious acts.  Arjuna was just a doer.
  • Lord Krishna removed his dear devotee Arjuna's fear & following the instruction of the Lord Arjuna engaged himself in the warfare.

Not a Robot

Modern scientific viewpoint states that we the human beings are nothing but a bag of chemicals & we came into existence owing to some spontaneous chemical reactions and will cease to exist once the chemical reaction ceases.

Scientific theory epitomizes the doctrine of the renowned atheist charvak muni who said when this body dies nothing is left. So, one must enjoy ones life as much as possible. Beg, borrow and steal but enjoy was his message to the humankind.

Modern educational curriculums are designed taking into consideration the aforementioned viewpoint.

Scientists believe that a human brain can be programmed to act in a particular way in the same manner as a robot is programmed in laboratories to act in a particular way.

Today in schools & colleges a student’s brain is stuffed with loads of information to ensure that his brain is programmed to believe that he is the doer of everything and this life of his is to enjoy to the fullest. Every year across the world schools & colleges are manufacturing highly skilled robots, loaded with technical savoir faire.

So, since schooldays itself these mechanized robots starts considering this life to be full & final and are ready to resort to any means to enjoy this (& only this) life. If I am a bag of chemicals & my colleague or my friend or my family member is also a bag of chemicals then what’s the harm in destroying that bag? I have to enjoy my life any how (beg, borrow & steal).

However when confronted with any adversity these highly talented mechanized robots tries to switch on their intelligence button but fails to find out that particular program which can solve their problem. So we find these highly skilled, highly intelligent and high profile robots hangings itself with a small rope from the ceiling of the house, taking dollops of rat poison to end the troublesome safari of life or taking the shelter of the sleeping pills. In spite of being force- fed dollops of arguments against suicide, drug abuse, depression why is it that even the most knowledgeable materialistic brain (high profile engineers, doctors, scientists, business magnates, lawyers) easily succumb to it.

Inundated with plethora of materialistic information human intelligence fails to do a RCA (Root Cause Analysis) of the problem. The brain tries to find the solution based on the existing source codes which were force – fed in schools & colleges to ensure that the being turns out to be a technological masterpiece (robot) unparalleled and unequivocally the best. However unfortunately, unlike the computer program the output is not always as per the expectations.

Let us understand the difference between a robot and a human being.

Robot is a mechanical machine devoid of any consciousness whereas human beings are spiritual beings full of consciousness. Unlike human being a robot does not feel pain & pleasure, tears does not start pouring down from it’s eyes with love and ecstasy upon seeing it’s own creator (mother & father) or fellow robots (brothers & sisters).

The flaw of the modern education system is that it does not answer the questions: who we are, what is the purpose of this life & why do we suffer. It provides information only to deal with dead matter. There is no information about isvara(the Supreme Lord), jiva (the living entity), prakrti (nature), kala (eternal time) and karma (activity) in today’s educational curriculum.

We should understand that we are not a robot devoid of consciousness instead we are spiritual beings full of consciousness. We are souls at present imprisoned in a human body, as a soul we are sat-cit-ananda i.e. eternal, blissful and full of knowledge.

We are undergoing pain, pleasure and happiness owing to our previous karma.

As Srila Prabhupada explains, “We are suffering or enjoying the results of our activities from time immemorial, but we can change the results of our karma, or our activity, and this change depends on the perfection of our knowledge.”

As we are conditioned and fail to understand what is right or what is wrong we should take the shelter of scriptures like Bhagavad-gita which provides answers to all our questions.

Srila Prabhupada explains,"Being an associate of Lord Krishna, Arjuna was above all ignorance, but Arjuna was put into ignorance on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra just to question Lord Krishna about the problems of life so that the Lord could explain them for the benefit of future generations of human beings and chalk out the plan of life. Then man could act accordingly and perfect the mission of human life."

Unfortunately we have banished these religious treatises in pursuit of modernity. However since time immemorial the priceless, timeless and sublime philosophy of Bhagavad-gita, Srimad Bhagvatam, Isopanisad, Puranas & other revered religious scriptures has been a beacon light for the entire human civilization. Recent research conducted by leading universities all over the world acknowledges the positive impact of spirituality in a person’s life.

Recently published paper 'Impact of Adoption of Yoga Way of Life on Emotional Intelligence of Managers' by Indian Institute of Management – Bangalore states that those individual who has strong spiritual inclination has great ability to withstand failure and stress. The paper also concludes yoga increases the Emotional Intelligence (EI) of a person which in turn increases the person’s managerial performance. It also says that Yoga can even replace six-sigma.

Why not include these revered scriptures in school and college curriculum. Once done the schools & colleges will no longer produce hundreds & thousands of mechanized robots every year instead we will have young scholars who are not just technically savoir faire but are also spiritually empowered.

Empowered with the philosophy of these scriptures a person will not be bewildered when confronted with adversity; he will not be agitated, will not be frustrated and will never indulge in any life threatening and life destructive activities. Like Arjuna he will be fearless, will always perform righteous deeds and usher the world in a new era of peace, prosperity & happiness.

At the age of 69

At the age of 69 when most people retire and prefer a peaceful life, he decided to go on a voyage to a distant land where he had never gone before. His mission was very clear. He had to fulfill a dream of a great soul. Although he would have preferred to go long back but alas he had no money with him. At last one kind lady, who was the owner of a cargo company, allowed him to board her ship, Jaladuta.

Now he had a ticket and a seat in Jaladuta which would take him to the distant land, America. But he had almost no money with him. While boarding the ship his possessions were: a suitcase, an umbrella, supply of dry cereals, a Bengali copy of Caitanya –Caritamrta and Rs 40. But his greatest possession was several trunks of his books on Krishna Consciousness which he had painstakingly written.

This was the first time he would be travelling outside his beloved country Bharatvarsha.

While boarding the cargo ship at the Kolkata port he was not sure if he will ever return back alive. In fact when he had revealed his heart to his near and dear ones about his mission, no one encouraged him. Everyone thought that he is treading on a wrong path. But he did not bother because he knew Lord Krishna is with him.

He boarded Jaladuta on 13th August 1965.His journey wasn’t smooth. On board he suffered 2 massive heart attacks. He would have left his body if the 3rd would have come.

On board he composed a Bengali Poem ‘Markine – Bhagavata – dharma’ . Some of the verses are :

My dear Lord Krishna, you are so kind upon this useless soul, but I do not know why You have brought me here. Now You can do whatever You like with me ……

Somehow or other, O Lord, You have brought me here to speak about You. Now, my Lord, it is up to You to make me a success or failure, as You like…..

Only by Your causeless mercy will my words become pure. I am sure that when this transcendental message penetrates their hearts, they will certainly feel gladdened and thus become liberated from all unhappy conditions of life….

O Lord, I am just like a puppet in Your hands. So if You have brought me here to dance, then make me dance, make me dance, O Lord, make me dance as You like.

After 35 days of journey he finally reached America. His mission was to spread the message of Krishna Consciousness all over the world. This was also the desire of his beloved spiritual master Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati. He had the mercy of his guru and the mercy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna.

During his initial days in USA he had to struggle a lot. However soon his hard work, his dedication, his determination, his supreme sacrifice started bearing fruits. And in a short span of 12 years he changed the face of the world, the Hare Krishna movement reverberated in every nook and corner of the world.

Some of his greatest achievements are:

• He established ISKCON (International Society of Krishna Consciousness) in the year 1966 which is worldwide popularly known as Hare Krishna Movement

• He established more than 108 temples all over the world in a short span of 12 years.

• He is the founder of Bhaktivedanta Book Trust which today has become the world’s largest publisher of Vaishnava philosophy.

• He has authored more than 80 books on Vaishanava philosophy.

• He was instrumental in introducing Vedic gurukul system of education in the western world.

Today not just the Indians but people from different parts of the world like Siberia, Russia, Greece, Australia, China, Japan, USA, Brazil, Fiji, Africa etc have taken up to Krishna Consciousness.

He introduced the Rathyatra festival in other parts of the world. Today apart from the grand Rathyatra festival in Puri, Orissa (India), this glorious event is celebrated in more than 100 major cities of the world such as Dublin, Belfast, Birmingham, London, Budapest, Melbourne, Montreal, Paris, New York, Singapore, Toronto, Antwerp, Kuala Lumpur, Venice, Dhamrai.

This great soul is His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who is also known as Srila Prabhupada.

He is verily called a Charismatic leader. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu had said that the name of Lord Krishna will be chanted all across the globe and his prediction came true when Srila Prabhupada took up the mission of spreading Krishna Consciousness. By the mercy of Srila Prabhupada the Hare Krishna movement is still growing and will continue to grow for thousands of years.

Why don't we Surrender ?

Why it become so difficult to concentrate ones mind totally on Krishna. In spite of knowing the truth my mind wanders here and there. Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita “Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear”. This is a promise made by none other than the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna. Still we do not take this promise seriously…we do not surrender to Him? Why is it so?

The reason being that our consciousness is so covered by material lust that we fail to realize the actual truth. Even after hearing from pure Vaishnavas and reading scriptures like Bhagavad-Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam we are at a loss to accept the truth. We are soul, spiritual beings, parts and parcels of the Lord. Due to material contamination we have forgotten our real identity. This is why we crave only for material pleasure because we think this is the reality.

We are suffering from cataract so we are temporarily blinded and we can’t see the Spiritual abode, which should be our final destination. Our condition is that of an orphan child who being away from his mother for a long time forgets what is a motherly love. He accepts whatever he gets in the outside world. And due to his forgetfulness he considers whatever he gets in the outside world to be the real love and ultimate ecstasy.

Our condition is akin to the orphan child who being bereft of spiritual love for a long time has forgotten the true spiritual pleasure. Spiritual ecstasy which is ever lasting is far more pleasurable than any other pleasure of the material world.

As a mother is very much eager to get re-united with her lost son, similarly Lord also wants us to come back to Him. Lord arranges for several means to help us come back to him. Lord sends His devotees to us who tries to awaken our dormant love for Him.

Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says, “Vaisnavas or devotees are usually very compassionate upon conditioned souls. Without even being invited, a devotee will go from door to door to enlighten people and to bring them out of the darkness of nescience by injecting knowledge of the living entity’s constitutional position as a servant of Lord Krsna. Such devotees are empowered by the Lord to distribute devotional consciousness, or Krishna consciousness, to the people in general”

Once the seed of devotional service is implanted in the heart of a person it is required to be watered regularly by chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra (Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare), by hearing about the glories of the Lord and by being in regular association of pure devotees of the Lord.

As soon as one starts engaging in Krishna Consciousness he gets free from all material contamination, the spiritual love gets awakened and all material miseries ceases to exist. And the person finally goes back home ‘Back to Godhead’ wherein he enjoys eternally in the association of the Lord.

72 Pieces of Love

I will die for you, will you die for me? I can do anything for your pleasure. I can even pluck the stars for your pleasure. These are some of the well known slogans often reiterated by people who claim to be in love with each other. To be with his or her beloved these love birds are ready to risk their career , their lives and are even ready to abandon their home, their parents, relatives, friends….

They have an imagination that once they are united with their beloved, their lives will change forever. They will experience the same joy & happiness which a residence of Vaikuntha loka experiences. So they finally get married. However within a short span of time they find that their world of fantasy remains a distant dream. The amount of so called love they had for their beloved starts showing downward trend.

Even the statics shows that most of the time the culmination of the love marriage is divorce. The same 2 people who were desperate to live together become desperate to get separated. The recent incident when a man chopped his wife’s body into 72 pieces is a telling example as how sour the modern day love turns into.

Today’s love is not actually love but it is lust or physical attraction. Once the physical demand is satisfied the utility factor of the individual decreases and the person starts searching for some more better means which will satisfy their physical needs.

Modern society has made the word ‘love’ very vague. True love means sacrifice. True love means giving everything without expecting anything. A mother’s love for her child and a soldier’s love for his motherland are examples of selfless love. A mother dedicates her life for her beloved children and a soldier gives his life for his beloved motherland.

The selfless & true love exhibited by the gopis of Vraja for their beloved Lord Krishna is unparalleled.

To glorify the love which the Gopis had for Lord Krishna, Krishna enacted a pastime. He asked Narada Muni to go to different places, and tell people that I am having headache & my headache will subside only if someone gives the dust of their feet which in turn I will apply on my head. As per the instruction Narada Muni went to different places, met different people including great sages, learned scholars, philosophers, temple priests and requested them for the dust of their feet which Lord will apply on his head which in turn will cure his headache. Everyone refused; they argued if Lord smears his head with the dust of our feet then we will go to hell. They said to Narada Muni, Don’t think that we are fools, please forgive us, we don’t want to go to hell and suffer.

Narada Muni got disheartened, finally he went to Vraja, there he met the gopis and told them about Krishna’s headache and its cure. The moment the gopis heard about this they immediately started collecting dust of their feet. They even soaked their feet in the water so that their feet can gather more dust. Seeing this Narada Muni asked the gopis, “Don’t you know that if Krishna applies the dust of your feet on his head then you all will go to hell?” Hearing this the gopis replied, “If we are able to provide even a moment of pleasure to our beloved Krishna then we will consider our lives to be worthy and for this if we have to suffer in hell for eternity then we are ready for it. For us Krishna’s happiness is the most important thing.”

Narada Muni understood that the gopis selfless love for the Lord is supreme.

11 Krishna Conscious Capsules

As per the Vedic literature the duration of this material universe is limited. The creation of the material universe and its annihilation occurs in cycles of Kalpas.

The details are provided below:
  •  What is a kalpa :- One day of Brahma is called a Kalpa.
  •  Duration of Satya-yuga :- 1,728,000 years.
  • Satya - yuga is characterized by virtue, wisdom & religion
  • Duration of Treta - yuga :- 1,296,000 years
  • In Treta-yuga the characteristics of Satya -Yuga starts declining.
  • Duration of Dvapara – yuga:- 864,000 years.
  • In Dvapara-yuga there is further decline in virtue, religion & wisdom
  • Duration of Kali - yuga:- 432,000 years.
  • In Kali- yuga decline in the religious principles reaches its pinnacle.
  • These 4 yugas rotating a thousand times makes 1 day of Brahma. Similarly these 4 yugas rotating a thousand times makes 1 night of Brahma.
  • Brahma lives for 100 years. So, by our calculation Brahma’s total life is 311 trillion and 40 billion earth years.
At the end of Brahma’s life annihilation takes place.

Education – of No Use

Exasperated with the quantity & quantum of scams today people are desperate to find a solution which will put an end to it. Government changes, politicians’ changes, political parties’ agenda changes but still the end result is the same.

It is said that knowledge has the power to bring revolution, it can usher us in an era of peace, prosperity and happiness. Education changes a person’s life forever. It is said that knowledge is power and with this power one can conquer the entire world.

If education is considered to be the only instrument which dispels darkness, brings meaning to a person’s life, makes him a responsible citizen, makes him understand what is right & what is wrong, teaches him his duty towards the nation, towards the society and towards his fellow beings then why is that almost all (no exceptions) who had been & have been caught in the scams are highly educated people.

All those who are implicated are well known industrialist, media tycoons, high profile government officials and off course our very dear lovable politicians.

Education provides enlightenment. If it is so then why everyone caught in the scams are only highly educated people? I did not find even a single person who is neck deep in corruption as someone who was illiterate & had not had any basic education. If education is considered to bring enlightenment then why do these scamsters are still not enlightened? If education is considered to make them more civic and more responsible then why did it not happen? If education is considered to make people responsible then why did it not happen?

Our current education system is lacking something.

Today corruption is deep rooted in our society. Be it a traffic havaldar, a peon, a clerk, a teacher, a government official, a lawyer, a businessman, a journalist, politician, judges , men or women in fact almost everyone is involved in it. In nutshell whoever gets an opportunity they encash it.

If education has not been successful in bringing the desired result then is it not the time for us to introspect & find the root cause for its failure?

The present education system is just loading the students with plethora of information. It is not emphasizing in uplifting the conscience of the people, the hearts and the minds of the beings are not being transformed in schools and colleges. Instead they are thought that material possession is the most important thing for a person.

In pursuit of modernity we are shunning spirituality. We are spiritual beings not a bag of chemicals. Real education is that which nourishes the soul, which cleanses our conscience so that we can understand the real and the absolute truth. Once our conscience is purified we would understand the world in its true color, we would realize the meaning of real happiness, we would understand the real purpose of a human life, we would understand that all living beings are our own brothers and sisters, we would understand that real happiness is in selfless love, is in giving not in taking.

Bhagavad – gita clearly states that those in the modes of ignorance are bound to act in such a way which is harmful for the society. It says that a person should endeavour to come to the mode of goodness, once situated in the mode of goodness a person will work for the betterment of the society.

ayuktah prakrtah stabdhah satho naiskrtiko lasah

visadi dirgha – sutri ca karta tamasa ucyate (BG:18.28)

The worker who is always engaged in work against the injunctions of the scripture, who is materialistic, obstinate, cheating and expert in insulting others, and who is lazy, always morose and procrastinating is said to be a worker in the mode of ignorance. (By Srila Prabhupada).

Krishna clearly articulates that person in the mode of ignorance will commit such heinous crimes. Unless there is transformation from the modes of ignorance to modes of goodness there is no chance that the person will do any good to the society.

tatra sattvam nirmalatvat prakasakam anamayam

sukha – sangena badhnati jnana – sangena canagha (BG 14.6)

O sinless one, the mode of goodness, being purer than the others, is illuminating, and it frees one from all sinful reactions. Those situated in that mode become conditioned by a sense of happiness and knowledge. (By Srila Prabhupada).

So, if we are really serious about transforming the society then at first we need to transform the education system. Our education system should not shun spirituality but should embrace it. The purpose of education system should not be to just provide information but it should also transform pupils’ heart & cleanse their conscience. Schools & colleges should not be just a temple of education for namesake but in true sense it should bring a person closer to Lord which will ensure that the person is situated in the mode of goodness.

It can only be possible if we take the shelter of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna & chant the mantra:

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

If it happens then we will have peace, prosperity and happiness everywhere.

Searching the ‘NEW’

What changes from 31st Dec to 1st Jan? On 31st Dec too sun rises from the east & sets in the west so happens on 1st Jan; the sky still continues to remain blue; the water of the rivers, the lakes & the oceans continues to flow as it did on the 31st; the color of the leaves, the aroma of the flowers is still the same; schools, colleges & workplaces will also remain unchanged; jobs & professions will also be the same. Scientifically also the earth will continue to rotate around its own old axis and will revolve around the same old orbital path.
So, scientifically speaking & logically speaking there is nothing new which happens on 1st. If nothing changes & everything remains the same then what do we celebrate on 1st Jan? But still we celebrate on 1st, still we enjoy. Our celebration isn’t hollow, it’s not artificial. In fact we impatiently await the arrival of 1st Jan as a groom impatiently awaits the arrival of the new bride.
So if there is nothing for us to rejoice on 1st Jan then why we desperately wait for it? What do we celebrate on this very day? The answer to this question is too simple. On 1st Jan neither we celebrate any success nor do we expect something extraordinary to happen in our life. Celebration is confined to the passing of a previous year and the arrival of the New Year.
We can’t do anything about the year which is gone & we cannot celebrate for a year which is still to unfold. We just have a hope that the New Year which begins on 1st Jan will usher us in an era of unflinching joy & happiness. No matter whether we belong to haves or haves not category we all eagerly await the dawn of New Year.
The word ‘New’ in New Year has great significance in our life. Since, we always experience a void in our life so we have a hope that the ‘New’ will be able to fill the void.
What is the void which we try to fill? Each & every individual - rich or poor, young or old, men or women, black or white, Hindus or Muslims, Christians or Jews, Indians or Americans, Pakistanis or Australians - wants a particular thing in their life & that priceless thing is ‘bliss’; yes every being knowingly or unknowingly is looking for bliss in their life.
To be blissful is our fundamental right, every one of us seek for bliss in our lives because as a soul we are sac-cid-anand i.e. eternal, blissful and full of knowledge. So, we impatiently wait for the ‘New’ in the New Year with a hope that the New will fill our void and help us to lead a blissful life.
However our quest for something new always boils down to 4 things: eating, mating, sleeping & defending. The Srimad Bhagavatam describes: punah punas carvita carvananam “Chewing the chewed”. Since, we have been indulging in these 4 activities since time immemorial, so we find nothing new in these activities. So, sooner than later we find that the bliss for which we were looking for is missing.
Although we try all possible means to lead a blissful life but still we always find there is something which is lacking in our endeavor. If it’s so then this New Year, why don’t we try something really ‘NEW’? As a seeker of bliss why don’t we turn towards the giver of bliss?
Lord is infinite & is eternally new (nitya navanavayamana), so when we love the Lord then it is always a new blissful experience for us. This is why great souls like Narada Muni, Prahlada, Haridas Thakur, Meerabai, Surdas, Rupa Goswami, Sanatana Goswami and other great sages always meditated on the Lord & were transcendentally blissful. They never sought after for any external pleasure because internally they were totally satisfied.
So this New Year why don’t we take a resolution that we will endeavor to re-awaken our dormant love for the Lord. As Srila Prabhupada says, "The rich father does not like to see his son become a crazy fellow loitering in the street. But if his son does not come home, there is no loss for the father. And if the son comes back to the home of his rich father, it is in the son's interest. "
So Krishna, our eternal father, is eagerly waiting for us, we just have to take a small step in that direction. A small endeavor from our side will ensure that we eternally enjoy a blissful life.
